    The crankshaft sensor operates by detecting the rotation of a toothed reluctor wheel or magnetic encoder ring attached to the crankshaft. Two primary technologies are used:
  • Magnetic (Variable Reluctance) Sensors: Generate an alternating current (AC) voltage as teeth pass the sensor, with signal frequency proportional to crankshaft speed.
  • Hall Effect Sensors: Use a magnetic field and semiconductor to produce a digital square-wave signal, offering higher accuracy at low speeds.

  • The ECU interprets these signals to determine crankshaft position and adjust engine parameters accordingly.
