How it works


The material functions through a combination of the hemp shiv's (the woody core of the stalk) hygroscopic properties and the binding power of the lime-based binder. The shiv acts as a lightweight aggregate, while the lime paste coats the particles and, through a process called carbonation, slowly reabsorbs carbon dioxide from the air to harden and gain strength over time. This creates a monolithic, breathable, and highly insulating mass.
